Semi finalists already have a free day tomorrow
September 8, 2008

As Koneru, Kosteniuk, Cramling and Hou have won their 4th round matches against their opponents without tie break, they will have a free day tomorrow.

In another Nimzo Indian (Samisch system), Koneru has chosen a solid structure with Black and did not use the Ne4 option. In contrast to two Bishops at White, she got a well-placed Knight on c4 that proved to be very useful in the middle game.

Cramling was playing against Stefanova`s Slav defence a long battle which ended in a draw while each player still had about twenty minutes. As Cramling won yesterday, the former Champion will leave the tournament and we will have a new Woman World Chess Champion to be crowned here at the end of the tournament.

In the Caro-Kan exchange variation chosen by the Chinese girl, Hou Yifan gradually overplayed her Armenian opponent who made a few mistakes and resigned with only 1 minute left at move 28th.
